Biography

Jean Koning (born 1976) is an author, musician and actor, who came to prominence during the artistic explosion of the early nineties.

Though he has had minor roles in mainstream films such as Süskind, Amsterdamned, De Aanslag, Post, Holy Rollers and Beefcake, he is most associated with independent movies, including The Scent of Men, A Selfie For A Friend ("Longing To Watch"), Grieved, and his exquisite performance of Edward Gingerich in the underground film Edward.

On the theatrical stage, he is well known for extraordinary and moving performances of somewhat troubled characters as well as performances in experimental stage-plays such as Bernlefs: De Pianoman, Étonne-Moi and Tussen Het Stro.

In his acclaimed book Visions, he writes about his personal life in both Amsterdam and New York. Describing political issues, disappointing love affairs and drug abuse, in a witty voice, with Visions Koning reached a widespread audience. Koning returned to writing with two Dutch novels, Noppen and Anoniem, which are written from a fictional character's point of view, but seem to deal with personal grief at the same time.

Throughout his career, Mr. Koning has been honoured with numerous awards.

He resides in both Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and New York City.
