Biography

Raymond James Kesavan Yoo Weng was born in 1948, which was the year of the rat. He has an MBA degree from the University of Dubuque and a BE (Mech Eng) Hons degree from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, under the Colombo Plan Scholarship. After graduating in 1972, he spent over 23 years working in various departments of the Singapore Economic Development Board (SEDB).

During his tenure in the Manpower Division of the SEDB, he was primarily responsible for the establishment of various joint government-industry training institutions that trained skilled manpower to support the government push towards high-tech industries. In 1981, he rose to the rank of Director of the Japan-Singapore Training Centre.

In 1986, when the SEDB embarked on promoting services, he was appointed Head of Technical Services. He had to network with various Government Ministries to develop the many related service sectors. He was responsible for spearheading the strategic thrust to make Singapore the regional hub for service excellence.

Subsequently, in 1990, he put forth the proposal for the promotion of Creative Services, which resulted in the establishment of many new creative projects in Singapore. He was appointed Director of Creative Services. During that period, he sat in various committees to spearhead the promotion of creative businesses in Singapore. He also lectured at the Informatics Computer Institute for the Thames Valley University undergrad programme and pre-courses for the MBA programme.

He left the SEDB in 1995 and embarked on an entrepreneurial trail to invest in the education business. He set up dMaster Learning Center to promote math excellence, as his forte was in enriching and motivating students to excel in math. He has helped many students overcome their fear of math through motivation, memory enhancement and mastering math skills. He received many testimonials from weak students who had benefited from his tutoring. Many parents had also expressed appreciation for their children's remarkable progress in achieving top grades for math. From 2007 till today, he is the editor of math assessment books (from P1 to JC2) published by Fairfield Book Publishers in Singapore. Till these days, he continues teaching with lots of passion and enthusiasm and sharing with his students all his math tricks. In his leisure time, he enjoys singing and playing in the band.
