Author's Notes

"We smelled it before we saw it.

The dank, strong odor of rotten, oily fish hit us first. We wretched and then looked up at the night sky to an unbelievable silent killer soaring above us. The death-eaters had found us."

I once met a man who said that he had seen these creatures, in the dark, deep in Papua New Guinea, where no man had ever set foot. I never forgot his passion as he told the unbelievable adventure of his sightings, and his photographs were incredible.

As my grandmother would say, "You never know what is out there..."
