The Wizard-Thieves by Bradley S. Pontius. Book coverThe Wizard-Thieves is a Decopunk Fantasy setting, set in the roaring twenties of a world where the sword-and-board high fantasy evolved and moved on naturally. The fantasy species such as elves, dwarves, orcs and trolls are not monsters, they've evolved to be naturally part of this world. And in Thaumopolis, the City of Wizards, everyone has access to magic and the knowledge to wield it.

The story itself follows an orc gumshoe, Salrik Strongbow, a booze-drenched detective and his colleagues as they race against time to find and stop a magical kidnapper in the crime-riddled back alleys of the City of Wizards.

Author's Notes

I wrote The Wizard-Thieves and kicked off the City of Wizards series for two reasons: One, I have an undying love for the Roaring Twenties as well as fantasy in general... And two because it really is something I believe in. I firmly think that not only is it a platform that I can use to tell a story that points at flaws in our own society as well as featuring protagonists that are traditionally 'othered'. This book is as much a statement on modern society as it is a fun (and sometimes funny) look at a world where the tolkien-esque fantasy existence managed to evolve and move on from their medieval era.
