The absolutely true story of La Befana

by Paolo Mazzucato

There are plenty of Christmas stories about the jolly, old man in red who visits every December, but what about January 5th? Part rumor, part folklore and part magical invention, the classic origin story of the Italian Befana and her Christmas Epiphany visit to all children, naughty and nice, is presented here in a colorfully illustrated storybook. Told from an...unusual point of view, myth meets reality as we learn how things "actually" happened that fateful night when three wise guys, or...wise men, came searching for a newborn baby king and got a warm bowl of homemade minestrone instead.

by Johnny Two Kebabs

Who is Johnny Two Kebabs? There has been much speculation in recent years as to whether Johnny Two Kebabs really exists. Is the song that was written about him and for which the video appears on the internet merely in the tradition of Irish blarney and storytelling? Is it a type of Celtic mythology about larger than life figures? Were the comics which mysteriously appeared on the Internet in 2020 just fake news?

Dasutu’s Inovarsa

by D A Ford

Dasutu is a young boy with some peculiar language difficulties. We first meet him standing naked in front of a mirror asking what he can know of himself, and of the universe? He lives with his loving and supportive family on a small island during the 1960’s. Although the setting is idyllic, there are nevertheless philosophical and cultural challenges that he works through. An obvious aspect of the novel is an unusual language treatment. This allows the text to refer to things that may ordinarily stimulate preconditioned responses, without linking to their usual signifier, thus offering a degree of freedom from that baggage, such that the reader has at least some chance of experiencing Dasutu’s naive perspective.

by Israelin Shockness

Emotional Intelligence, the ability to understand and manage emotions, is about getting along with others. Understanding more about emotional intelligence could be the answer to many concerns that young people have. For example, some young people often lament: “No one cares about me”; “People are always picking on me”; “My parents don’t understand me”; “I don’t know why my friends treat me that way”. Some express the sentiments: “I wish I could get along better with my classmates”; “I wish I understood them”; and “I wish they understood me.” Others ask themselves:  “Why do I feel so overwhelmed?” or “Why do I get so angry?”
